Pupil Premium

At Tilston CE Primary Academy, we decide how best to use Pupil Premium funding to ensure that it has the greatest possible impact on removing barriers to learning and improving outcomes for eligible pupils.

School governors and senior leaders provide appropriate challenge and oversight to ensure that funding is used effectively and in the best interests of our children. An allocated governor also evaluates the provision in place and considers the impact of the work being undertaken.

At Tilston, we are passionately committed to helping every child achieve their full potential, regardless of background or ability.

Each child is supported according to their individual needs. Pupil Premium funding is used to provide a range of academic, pastoral, enrichment and educational support. This can include:

• Additional 1:1 or small-group support for identified needs within the curriculum, for example targeted maths support to address specific gaps in learning.
• Wellbeing and nurture-based interventions led by trained professionals.
• Subsidised residential visits and educational trips.
• Support to attend events and opportunities beyond school, such as sporting fixtures and enrichment activities that broaden children’s experiences.
• Subsidised breakfast and after-school care where this supports good attendance and engagement with school.
• 1:1 or small-group tutoring.
• High-quality training and support for teachers and teaching assistants.
• Targeted support to improve attendance where this is a concern.
• Use of technology to support learning within the classroom.
• Support with the cost of school uniform where appropriate.

Free School Meals and Pupil Premium

Universal Infant Free School Meals (UIFSM) are available to all children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2.

This is different from entitlement to benefits-related Free School Meals. Families who meet the eligibility criteria should still apply for Free School Meals, even if their child is currently receiving a meal through UIFSM, as eligibility may also attract additional Pupil Premium funding for the school.

This funding can help us provide additional support and opportunities for eligible pupils throughout their time at Calveley.

Academically Able Pupils

Pupil Premium funding is not based on a child’s academic ability. Academically able pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds may also require additional support to ensure that they achieve their full potential.

At Tilston, we ensure that academically able pupils who are eligible for Pupil Premium are appropriately challenged, supported and given opportunities to deepen their learning and achieve highly.
