Pupil Premium

The government believes that the Pupil Premium, which is additional to main school funding, is the best way to address the current underlying inequalities between children eligible for free school meals (FSM) and their peers by ensuring that funding to tackle disadvantage reaches the pupils who need it most.

The Pupil Premium was introduced in April 2011 and is allocated to schools to work with pupils who have been registered for free school meals at any point in the last six years (known as ‘Ever 6’).

It has been for schools to decide how the Pupil Premium is spent since they are best placed to assess what additional provision should be made for the individual pupils within their responsibility. Schools are required to publish online information about how the premium has been used.

The school's allocation for 2023-2024 is £12.465

In allocating Pupil Premium funding, Tilston School aims to ensure that appropriate provision is made to:

  • Raise attainment for vulnerable pupils and close the gap between this group and their peers;

  • Support disadvantaged pupils in achieving at least age-related expectations in reading, writing and mathematics and ensuring their progress is at least good in these areas of the curriculum;

  • Equip all pupils with the necessary skills needed to access the full curriculum;

  • Support families in need of financial assistance with regard to school-related activities;

  • Support pupils in their personal, social and emotional development and help address any related barriers which may affect their learning;

We also look to maximise opportunities to enrich and enhance the curriculum where pupils show a particular talent or interest.

Individual Pupil Premium Provision Maps are written collaboartively with parents to show we are using the PPG to support their child in school. Provision maps are reviewed termly.

Please download the Pupil Premium Impact Summary 2022-2023 for further details.

We review our Pupil Premium strategy termly as an agenda item for our Finance Committee. Termly Headteacher Reports to Governors report on the impact of the Pupil Premium Grant. An annual impact statement is shared with all Governors.

Next review date: June Spring 2024
