We are currently learning about World War I in our topic work. During the weekend, a few of us visited an exhibition in Wrexham Museum. We've created a slideshow containing some of the amazing artefacts; please  follow the link:

We have really enjoyed re-enacting the Christmas Truce of 1914 using French and English.

12th November

This week we have been learning more about Remembrance Day. The main observance is on the second Sunday in November, but 2 minutes silence is also made on November 11th; the date when hostilities formally ended after more than four years of battle during World War I.

We read and analysed the poignant poem 'In Flanders Fields' by John McCrae.

We also investigated a range of poetic devices and enjoyed writing our own acrostic poems.

Seeing a ceramic poppy from the art installation 'Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red' from the Tower of London 2014 was very exciting.

19th November

We have been learning more about Anti-Bullying this week. We role played a few scenarios and had great fun creating storyboards using the Storyboard app on our iPads. During our philosophy session, we posed questions and discussed many issues involved with bullying. We decided that we would be leaders for our school and make sure that we would be UPstanders and not BYstanders and use 'our power for good', which was this year's theme.

We are continuing with our focus of 'The Great War' and Alexa brought in an army tank that she had made at home with her father; we all thought this was fabulous! Well done Alexa!

In maths lessons we've been using an app called Showbie to share our work and to discuss and reflect on our learning. Please see the photographs for some of the comments.

On Friday we had a fantastic day decorating the school for Children in Need, dressing up and painting our faces. The Children's Committee organised a cake sale which was enjoyed by all.

24th November

This week has been very exciting as we have been linking a lot of our learning to our World War I visit. We have written to Mr Harley to persuade him that this will be a valuable learning opportunity. Our maths lessons have been based around the cost of petrol to travel to Bickerton Hill and calculating the amount of a recipe to make stew. We have also thoroughly enjoyed cooking the stew in class; please see our photographs.

In addition to our preparation for World War I day, we have also participated in a 'buddy training' session with Miss Smith, a PE teacher from Bishop Heber High School. We will use these skills to work with the Year 1/2 children during break times and lunchtimes. Please see our gallery for photographs.
